This one came from a fellow author, John Piedilato who wrote:

“Your book would have to be a must read for any adult who has missed the boat on those things that make you strong.”

Mr. Piedilato’s book, Teaching Naked – The Joy of Teaching, is also a must read for those teachers who wish to connect to their students in a non-traditional, yet very effective way. John certainly isn’t afraid to rock the proverbial boat with his methods, and he doesn’t shy away from challenging teachers to re-think the way in which they do business.

John and I are similar this way, which is why ‘Man School’ must have resonated with him. I’m not sure which parts he liked particularly, but I am sincerely grateful for the kind words and the encouragement. Writing a book isn’t easy, so when a fellow author sends his vote of confidence it means a ton.

The lesson: Don’t hesitate to pass along (honest) words of encouragement. Small gestures, when added up, make all the difference in the world. Tomorrow morning at precisely ten a.m. I’ll sit at my desk and continue to plug away at book number 3. Only it’ll be with a little more vigor and enthusiasm, as I know I have another author in my corner.

If you have kids in the Charleston / Mount Pleasant area you might want to check out this class at Wine and Design: The Huck Finn Class to Make Really Cool Stuff! We’ll make a cane fishing pole that works!, a rain stick(that probably won’t really make it rain, but will look really cool!), a treasure box and an authentic looking treasure map. The idea is to allow kids to express themselves artistically while at the same time, teaching them how to use their hands!

Class runs four consecutive Thursdays at 3:30 beginning on January 29. It is open to kids age seven and up. Please call (843) 388-7857 for more information.
